Justin Bieber & His Dad: From Strained to Strong Bond

Too late to say sorry? Singer-songwriter Justin Bieber has had a tumultuous relationship with his father, Jeremy Bieber, for most of his life. Since the Canadian hitmaker was primarily raised by his single mother, Pattie Mallette, who was also his manager and often spotted on the road with him, his dad was painted to be an absent parent.

Yet, while the Bieber men might have been at odds in the past, it appears they have been making up for lost time in more recent years. For Father’s Day 2020, for example, the “Baby” singer gave a shoutout to his dad with a throwback Instagram photo of Justin as an infant in his papa’s arms. “Happy Father’s Day Dad!” he wrote. “Sucks I can’t be with you today but grateful Bay, Jaxo, Allie and Jazzy get to spend time with you!!” the star went on to caption the image, referring to stepsiblings. “Xoxo have an AMAZING DAY!”

But how did Justin and Jeremy reach this point? Keep scrolling for more details on Justin Bieber’s relationship with his dad.

Jeremy Bieber wasn’t ready for fatherhood when Justin was born

Although pop star Justin Bieber’s parents never wed, the former couple welcomed their son when father Jeremy Bieber was only 18 and mother Pattie Mallette was just 17. At the time of his birth, Justin said his dad was “not in a place where he could raise a kid” in a 2015 interview with Billboard. “He was immature. He left for like a year when I was about 4, went to British Columbia, came back on Father’s Day. I remember my mom said, ‘If you’re going to be here, you have to be here.'”

Despite their rocky start, Justin assured the outlet that Jeremy eventually stepped up as a paternal figure. “There’s a misconception that he’s this deadbeat dad, but he has been in my life since,” he said at the time, adding, “I was with him on weekends and Wednesdays.” While Jeremy is often portrayed as a negative influence in the “Holy” singer’s life, the heartthrob said he’s been a great role model, and the two often exchange Bible verses and share a deep connection.

He had legal troubles during Justin Bieber’s childhood

Amidst the legal drama from his drag racing arrest in 2014, Justin Bieber gave an Instagram shout-out to his dad. “I have the greatest dad in the world,” he wrote, adding that his father was his “superhero.” Still, anyone who’s ever watched a Marvel movie knows that even the most courageous superheroes are flawed. As it turns out, past legal trouble may just be part of the family tree.

According to Radar, who obtained Canadian court records, Bieber’s dad had a few run-ins with the law in the 1990s and early 2000s. During their 1995 custody battle over Justin, mom Pattie Mallette claimed that dad Jeremy Bieber had a “long history of criminal activity” and allegedly threatened to kidnap their son. This was just the beginning of what’s on record. In 1997, Justin’s father was booked on an “assault or causing bodily harm” charge and spent a brief 90-day stint behind bars. After his release, he broke probation twice and landed nearly two months of additional jail time. Then, in 2002, Jeremy was cuffed for alleged “assault with a weapon causing bodily harm,” though the case was eventually dismissed. Radar also claimed that Jeremy “had several run-ins with the law” in front of Justin.

Jeremy Bieber’s parenting style has raised some eyebrows

Even though Justin Bieber said his dad is a great influence behind closed doors, Jeremy Bieber has made some public remarks that have caused a stir amongst JBiebs’ fans. Back in October 2015, for example, Jeremy made a crude comment after nude photos of the “Yummy” singer were leaked on social media. “@justinbieber what do you feed that thing. #proud daddy,” Jeremy wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted (via ET).

While many people were shocked that Justin’s dad would make a joke about his son’s “privacy,” the Biebs himself told Billboard that’s just his dad’s sense of humor and his way of teaching his son to roll with the punches. “I felt super violated. My dad made light of it, but I don’t think that’s sick and twisted,” he told the outlet. “It was funny. Dads are going to be dads.”

Even so, his father’s comment started a beef with actor Bette Midler, who slammed Jeremy in on Twitter with, “I think the biggest [expletive] in this situation is the dad who abandoned his son.” Addressing her statement in Mariah Carey-esque fashion, Justin told Billboard, “I don’t even know who that is, honestly.”

Justin Bieber’s love for his siblings keeps him close to his father

Although Jeremy Bieber wasn’t ready to be a dad during Justin Bieber’s early years of life, he slid into the role seamlessly with his other children. Jeremy is also father to daughter Jazmyn and son Jaxon from his marriage to Erin Wagner. After the pair divorced following seven years together, he went on to marry Chelsey Bieber in 2018, and together they welcomed daughter Bay that same year. Jeremy is also stepfather to Chelsey’s daughter, Allie Rebelo, from a previous relationship.

Considering the big age gap between Justin and his siblings, he’s acted as a father figure in their lives. He has gushed over them on social media and has alluded to them being interested in the family business. In May 2020, for example, Jazmyn posted a photo in the studio with her big brother, where he can be seen showing her the ropes. “Learning from the best @justinbieber,” she captioned the sweet Instagram picture.

Justin’s strong connection to his siblings keeps him on good terms with his dad. That same month, the singer posted a photo with his dad and brother all in matching outfits. “FAM,” he wrote with a red heart, tagging his proud papa. From the looks of their coordinating attire, we would say they have a pretty solid relationship today.

They have nothing but love for each other now

Apparently, it never is too late to say sorry. Justin Bieber may have had a rocky start with his father, but now that the singer is an adult, it seems like they’ve managed to repair their relationship. Today, there’s nothing but love — and they aren’t afraid to gush about it on social media. In fact, that seems to be their preferred place to show support.

More recently, the father-son duo spent March 2022 using Instagram to take a stroll down memory lane. It all started when Jeremy Bieber shared a sweet photo of Justin as a newborn to celebrate the singer’s 28th birthday. Days later, the “Peaches” singer posted an Instagram tribute to his father. The too-sweet photo — captioned with, “Love you dad” — depicted a young Justin and his father playing during a family beach outing. Jeremy followed that up with yet another childhood photo of Justin, alongside the caption, “Love you son!” Talk about an adorable call and response.

The streak ended a few weeks later when Jeremy — along with Justin’s four half siblings — visited the singer on his “Justice Tour.” The father shared an image from the backstage family reunion, claiming he was a “proud daddy.” When your kid is a multi-platinum recording artist, how could you not be proud?

Shiloh Jolie, 19, looks strikingly like mom Angelina

Like mother, like daughter.

Shiloh Jolie shocked the internet on Friday as she bore a strikingly similar resemblance to her famous mother, Angelina Jolie, in her sultry music video debut.

The 19-year-old dancer stars in K-Pop singer Dayoung’s new music video for her single, “What’s a girl to do,” which will be released on April 7.

teaser for the video began circulating on social media Friday, and fans were quick to recognize the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” star’s good genes as Shiloh made a cameo later in the trailer.

It didn’t take long before the internet was set ablaze with comparisons between the mother and daughter.

“Look at Shiloh, man. Crazy to see Angie’s kids follow in her footsteps,” one X user commented.

“Literally looks exactly like her momma oh my god,” wrote another netizen.

Meanwhile, a third person reacted: “Holy sh*t, mamma’s good genes are sooooo strong 🤯😍.”

It’s unclear if Shiloh will appear as an actress or will also perform as one of the Dayoung’s dancers. But, it’s no secret that the nepo baby has become a skilled dancer over the years.

In June 2025, she earned a credit as a choreographer under her new moniker Shi Jolie (she dropped her father Brad Pitt’s last name from her title in August 2024) for an original dance number at the launch of Isabel Marant’s capsule collection with Net-A-Porter.

The dance featured dancers Tako Suzuki and Keoni Rose and was accompanied by singer Luella’s performance of “Naïve.”

This wouldn’t be the first time fans have noticed the clear similarities between Shiloh and Angelina.

Last April, Shiloh appeared to channel her mom’s iconic “Tomb Raider” character as she wore her hair in a similar hairstyle.

In photos obtained by Page Six, she styled her hair in two braids as she hung out with friends on a stoop.

Expert explains Britney Spears’ changing look

A plastic surgeon examined before and after pics of Britney Spears to explain her face transformation. During a confessional Instagram video post in March 2022, Spears said one of the cosmetic procedures she nearly had was getting breast implants, but ultimately, she decided against it. In that same since-deleted post, the “I’m a Slave 4 U” singer also mentioned an unnamed female Hollywood A-lister who had work done, but was dishonest about undergoing procedures. “I do the same, but I’m not nearly as beautiful as she is yet I kind of do the same thing!” Spears admitted without going into details about which specific procedures she’d had done herself (via Glamour).

To get some clarification on how Spears’ has altered her appearance over the years, Nicki Swift spoke to Dr. Brandon Richland, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Richland MD and Richland Aesthetics. Richland compared photos of Spears from 2003 to more recent snaps, and offered his analysis. “While Britney has been open about her experiences with Botox and lip fillers, her current look suggests she may have explored more structural volume restoration,” the surgeon told us. One giveaway that hints Spears had work done beyond minor injections? She’s maintained the definition around her cheeks as she’s gotten older. “This is often achieved through deep-plane dermal fillers or fat grafting,” the expert said. “Normally, as we age, we lose that youthful apple of the cheek, but hers has remained quite prominent, which helps maintain that lifted appearance in the lower face,” Richland added.

Not only does he see signs of fillers, but the plastic surgeon also broke down the possibility of whether or not Spears had a nose job.

Britney Spears’ horrible history with Botox

For years, fans speculated that Britney Spears went under the knife to alter her nose. In fact, there’s a widely held belief among diehard fans that the singer had multiple procedures. According to Dr. Brandon Richland, that’s one of the rumors about Spears that turned out to be true. The plastic surgeon noticed a change in Spears from the 2000s to present day. “If you look closely at the bridge and the tip, the structure looks slightly narrower and more sculpted,” Richland told Nicki Swift. “This could be the result of a subtle rhinoplasty designed to thin the nasal tip and create a more delicate profile,” he added.

While the “Oops!…I Did It Again” artist has not gone on the record about rhinoplasty, she has been open about Botox, and her disastrous results with the procedures. “For probably 10 to 15 years, I haven’t had mine done right and … I can’t even be seen for 2 weeks,” Spears said in a candid, since-deleted Instagram video uploaded August 2023 (via Us Weekly). Spears claimed that the Botox was so botched that she had severe bruising. “I look like somebody beat the s*** out of me,” she explained, while adding that her doctor attempted to alleviate concerns by claiming that reaction was “completely normal.”

Richland took that info into consideration when comparing older photos of Spears to newer ones. “Another area where I see potential work is her brow and upper eyelid region,” the plastic surgeon said. “While she mentioned a bad experience with Botox causing a heavy brow, a successful brow lift, whether surgical or done with threads, can open up the eye area significantly,” Richland added.

Meta, YouTube liable for harming youth

Meta and YouTube have been found liable for negligence for deliberately designing addictive products that hooked a young user and led to her being harmed, a jury ruled on Wednesday. The tech companies have also been found liable for failure to warn. The jury awarded the plaintiffs in the case compensatory damages of $3m.

It took nearly nine days of deliberations for the Los Angeles jury to reach its verdict. Jurors also awarded punitive damages, which will be decided during the next phase of the trial.

The lawsuit over social media’s alleged harm to young people was the first of its kind to go to trial.

Over the course of the six-week trial, which took place in Los Angeles superior court, jurors heard from top executives at Meta and YouTube, whistleblowers, expert witnesses on social media and addiction, and a 20-year-old woman at the center of the lawsuit, who has gone by the initials KGM for court proceedings.

KGM testified that she became addicted to YouTube at age six and Instagram at nine, which she said had deleterious effects on her wellbeing. By age 10, she said, she had become depressed and was engaging in self-harm as a result. Her social media use allegedly caused her to have strained relationships with her family and in school. When she was 13, KGM’s therapist diagnosed her with body dysmorphic disorder and social phobia, which KGM attributes to her use of Instagram and YouTube.

“How do you make a child never put down the phone? That’s called the engineering of addiction. They engineered it, they put these features on the phones,” Mark Lanier, KGM’s lawyer said during closing arguments last week. “These are Trojan horses: they look wonderful and great … but you invite them in and they take over.”

KGM’s lawyers say her experience is emblematic of what tens of thousands of young people have faced on social media and in their offline lives.

“Today’s verdict is a historic moment – for [KGM] and for the thousands of children and families who have been waiting for this day,” KGM’s lawyers said in a written statement on Wednesday. “A jury of [KGM’s] peers heard the evidence, heard what Meta and YouTube knew and when they knew it, and held them accountable for their conduct. Today’s verdict belongs to [KGM].”

The plaintiffs’ arguments mirrored those brought against big tobacco in the 1990s, which focused on cigarettes’ addictive qualities and companies’ public denial despite knowledge of their products’ harms. They alleged some of the features that social media companies built into their platforms, such as an infinitely scrollable feed and video autoplay, are designed to keep people on the apps and have made the products addictive.

The jury’s verdict comes just one day after Meta was ordered to pay $375m in civil penalties in a separate lawsuit in New Mexico. In that case, the jury found the company misled consumers about the safety of its platforms and enabled harm, including child sexual exploitation, against its users. The back-to-back verdicts are the first ever to find Meta liable or negligent for acts committed on its platform.

Meta has said it will appeal the ruling in New Mexico. In the California case, a spokesperson for Meta said: “We respectfully disagree with the verdict and are evaluating our legal options.” YouTube did not immediately return request for a comment.

Both companies have consistently denied wrongdoing. A YouTube spokesperson, José Castañeda, has called the allegations that were brought “simply not true” and said that providing young people with a “safer, healthier experience has always been core to our work”.

A Meta spokesperson has previously said in statements to the Guardian that KGM’s mental health issues were brought on by a difficult home life and social media use was not to blame. “Her records show significant emotional and physical abuse, academic struggles and psychiatric conditions, separate from her social media usage,” the spokesperson said.

This trial is the first in a consolidated group of cases brought in California against Meta, TikTok, YouTube and Snap on behalf of more than 1,600 plaintiffs, including more than 350 families and 250 school districts. TikTok and Snap settled the KGM lawsuit just before trial.

KGM’s case is also the first of more than 20 “bellwether” trials, which are slated to go to court over the next couple of years and are used to gauge juries’ reactions as well as set legal precedent. The next bellwether case is scheduled to go to trial in July. A separate series of federal lawsuits with hundreds of plaintiffs making similar allegations is slated to start trial in San Francisco in June.
