Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock puppets up for auction in the United States

Original creations by Jim Henson, who transformed articulated figures into television stars in the 1970s and 1980s, will go under the hammer in California. It is estimated to fetch between $7,000 and $9,000. Among the most anticipated items in the sale is a pair of shoes belonging to  Piggy , the bossy pig who, alongside Kermit the Frog, popularized the  Muppet Show  in numerous countries. Some of Jim Henson’s original creations will be auctioned in California next week at a sale dedicated to the career of this American puppeteer.

Collectors will be able to purchase  400 diverse items  at this auction organized by Julien’s Auctions, which will take place on November 25. In addition to pieces from The Muppet Show , the 1970s comedy series, they will find puppets from Fraggle Rock , the wacky 1980s television program, and characters from the Netflix series  Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance  (2019). This is the first time in the United States that one can “legally purchase an authentic piece from the Jim Henson Company ,” said Roy Parker, pop culture specialist at Julien’s Auctions. A film about Piggy the Pig

Jim Henson, who died in 1990, revolutionized the art of puppetry by making these figures manageable and, more often than not, comedic. Besides The Muppet Show , he also created numerous characters for  Sesame Street , such as Ernie and Bert and Big Bird. The artist also imagined entire universes that came to life in films like Labyrinth (1986) and The Dark Crystal (1982), which Netflix re-adapted forty years later.

The auction, which will be held in Los Angeles and online, celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Jim Henson Company.  Emma Stone  and  Jennifer Lawrence  may be interested. The two American stars announced in early November that they are preparing a film about the life of Miss Piggy.
